Why not stitch a vintage ribbon wedding sampler? This is a really simple idea to write in ribbons on linen fabric. I use a very sharp pointed needle to make sure I don't pull at the ribbons so they pucker. Use a thread to stitch with the ribbons on that contrasts or matches. Trace the design with a soft pencil onto the linen fabric pulled taught in the hoop and start to stitch.
The ribbon is very satisfyingly growing in front of you and just add lace or buttons to cover any ugly ends. This sampler is only just started but over a few evenings I will be able to finish it.
